A completed school for Togyrikro

School for All

As part of the ‘School for All’ project run by the Ivorian association MESAD, a project to build a three-classroom school for the small rural village of Tygorikro (municipality of Abengourou) was launched in 2020. Unfortunately, the arrival of COVID brought this project to a halt, leaving the building half-built.

Aware of the importance of education thanks to MESAD, the village community petitioned the municipality of Abengourou to finish the school. A first three-classroom building was thus completed, without however finishing the work initiated by MESAD.

With the arrival of three teachers, this first part of the school enabled around 100 children from the village and nearby hamlets to attend school from the start of the 2023-2024 school year. However, this was still not enough to accommodate the nearly 400 school-age children in the village and surrounding area.

With the aim of contributing to the development of education in Côte d’Ivoire, the 1% For Education Fund joined forces with MESAD to complete the school.

The community’s requests were heard, and a second building with three classrooms was constructed by the municipality in early 2024, much to the delight of the parents.

Our assistance enabled the completion of the building started by MESAD and the opening of three nursery school classrooms. A delegation of five Maped employees travelled to the site to carry out the finishing touches and inaugurate the new classrooms.

Thanks to the project, the Tygorikro school now has nine classrooms, an office and a water tower, which will enable the majority of children in the community to receive an education.

From the start of the 2024-2025 school year, the school will be able to cover all three nursery levels and six primary levels, and a school canteen is expected to open in early 2026.
